Increased Conception and Survival Rate

John and Mary Falconer of Clachanburn station, aim to increase conception and survival rate to sale from 88% to 94% by June 2016.
Tactics/Actions:
  • Subdivision of a large hill block
  • Increase stocking rate from 0.65 to 0.8 hinds per Ha on hill
  • Self feed pit areas established
  • Monitor hind condition pre rut and post winter (compare to scan)
  • Pre rut wean a target group of hinds (condition basis)

Change will be demonstraded by monitoring the following points:

1.    A 1/3 will be pre rut weaned, 1/3 middle, 1/3 post rut, and all on same feed regimes. Then we can assess the variation in performance across these 3 mobs.

2.    Change in survival to weaned numbers

3. Track % hinds below CS 3.0 pre rut
