Pre-rut weaning trial on dry Canterbury hills
The Forresters decided to trial pre-rut weaning after comparison with another AP member's recorded performance. Achieved a substantial increase in weaner weight and potentially earlier conception.
Outcomes
•10kg increase in weights by start of winter achieved by pre mate weaning
•Hinds in better condition at mating, believed to taken the stag a cycle earlier
•Therefore expected to fawn earlier this coming season, resulting in heavier weaning weights
