Improved Weaner Finishing
Hamish and Danette want to improve their weaner finishing by achieving a 60kg average carcass weight and an average kill date of November 15th.
Tactics/Actions:
They plan to do this by:
- Drawing up a formal animal health plan
- Providing high quality winter feed such as fodder beet, Lucerne balage & strategic PKE
- Early weaning
- Aitken weaning onto high quality feed ex cattle
- Grazing smaller weaning mobs
- Selecting hinds for growth
- Pasture renewal to plantain, Lucerne and modern species
